What is Acupuncture?
It involves the insertion of tiny, sterile needles into the skin. This effective form of treatment has been used by practitioners of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years.
Helps patients regain the balance and wellbeing of their body so they can continue to live a long and happy life. Acupuncture promotes the natural healing of the body. It can enhance the physical, mental, emotional, diet, and health of each individual.
What is Qi?
In traditional Chinese medicine the study of qi (chee) is the energy that flows within our body that protects us from illness &/or disease from the external (outside) &/or internal (within ourselves), and pain. When an imbalance of qi within our body occurs, we will experience different symptoms that will alter the quality, quantity and balance of qi.
How does qi move?
Qi flows through pathways in the body known as meridians, these meridians are connected to each organ & gland. Every organ in the body has a pathway that qi will flow from hands to head and vice versa and from head to toes and vice versa. Qi will flow through these pathways providing nourishment to the organs, tissues, glands, cell and every muscle in the body.
How is qi disrupted?
A disruption to the free flow of qi is like a traffic gam. When qi becomes backed up in a part of the body it will stop the flow to not only that pathway, but will start to affect the flow of other parts of the body as well. This blockage of qi can be serious to a person’s health, with cutting of the nourishment to the organs, glands, cells and muscles of the body.
Trauma (physical & emotional), stress, anxiety, overwork, diet, lack of or excessive exercise, seasonal changes are just a few things that can cause qi blockage in the body.
Lots of times imbalances occur and the body will bounce back and recover, it’s when the disruption doesn’t get corrected which leads to a weakened immune system, illness, pain or disease.
What does acupuncture do?
The initial exam that will be conducted goes through a full health history as well as certain questions regarding your health, symptoms, tongue, pulse and lifestyle. Going through this process will lead the practitioner in the direction of the imbalances within the body.
Once the imbalances in the body are detected, the practitioner with then use fine, sterile needles at certain points over the body to unblock where the qi is not moving freely. Once this is done the body will start to balance out and qi will start to circulate freely again throughout the body.
